During the short time I was out of school in 1959 I went home to Portland to spend some time with my parents, George and Allegra Vautier.  Mom was a real estate broker for many years when she was young and now that most of her kids were gone she began trading houses again.  When the family first moved from Walla Walla they tried to buy a Nice little place over on Lincoln street but the title never cleared. The next house she acquired was really big.  It was in the corner of Irving and 24th. There was a renter who came with the place who made rifle stocks, as I was told. He got killed by a car one day so my mom, in her usual superstitious way, immediately decided to sell since there was bad karma.  She was also having a lot of sewer problems with the house which had several large alder trees on the parking strip.  The tree roots had invaded the sewer lines and fixing would be costly.  The family then moved to the house over on S.E. 17th street.

My brother took this picture in 1960.
