I was into photography at the time so I took some shots of the main building right away. The cafeteria was on the left. There was a long hallway with classrooms. The "majors" and profs lived on the 4th floor because St. Thomas was still under construction. The gym had just been constructed along with a temporary dorm for first high students and some less fortunate second high guys. You can barely make out the temporary dorm in the picture. We started out with 55 first high kids. 10 left during the year. 7 more were asked to leave at the end of the year (I was one).
This picture was taken soon after I arrived in September 1956.
This one was taken that same winter when we had a slight snowfall.
The above shot was also taken that year. I used a red filter to bring out the cloud formations. I think at the time I was working with a twin lens reflex using 620 mm panchromatic film.
A statue of Mary was in front of the
main building with the words sides sapientis (source of
wisdom) inscription at the base. This was one of my favorite
photos,
taken here with a red filter to darken the sky.
Me with a few unknown friends. I think the guy in the left was Mueller.
