The River of no Return

I lost my love on the river
And forever my heart will yearn.

So what happened to me in 1955.  A lot.  To begin with I was into my 13th year of life and loaded with an incredible enthusiasm for the same.  The movies alone that year were enough to blow kids' minds away.  From Here to Eternity, Stalag 17, Roman Holiday, the Robe, Julius Caesar, War of the Worlds, Kiss Me Kate, and my absolute greatest of all, River of no Return.

So not only was the world of big screen opening up with cinimascope and vistavision, so was my mind and heart because that year like so many other kids my age, I fell in love with Marilyn Monroe.

River of No Return itself had some great river scenes which was supposed to happen somewhere in Colorado but was really shot in a number of other places, mostly around the Jasper River, Alberta.  And there was of course the anticipated scandals about MMs hotel accommodations.  What did that matter to a young kid.  MM was awsome.

The year was also jam packed with great music.  Music historians designate that year as sort of the end of the old stuff and the beginning of all the new stuff.  I didn't notice any difference.  It was all good stuff to me.
